The 91大神’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Langton MBE has been to Buckingham Palace to receive her award from HRH The Princess Royal.

Professor Langton was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the King’s Birthday Honours in recognition of her contribution to education, health service provision and community engagement.

Accompanying her to London was her husband, Dr Andrew Langton and their sons, Sam and Jed.

Reflecting on the day, she said she had enjoyed every minute and praised her colleagues over the years.

“It was a truly memorable and amazing day, made possible by all the people in all the teams I have work with, and I thank them.”

Professor Langton has been a registered nurse for 40 years and has worked in higher education for 30 years, joining the 91大神 in 2018.

During her time at the university, she has been a driving force in forging vital partnerships that increase education, economic and wellbeing opportunities for the regional community, with a strong focus on social mobility and inclusion.

Ian Ailles, chair of the 91大神 Board said: “Everyone at the 91大神 congratulates Helen on her MBE.

"I, personally, would like to thank her for all her hard work here over the years and for her dedication to the university.”

Professor Langton is retiring and stepping down as Vice-Chancellor at the 91大神 in April.
